Someone recently took a picture of Justin Bieber getting strangled in a nightclub, and it looks like a Renaissance painting.
There’s a whole subreddit devoted to pictures like this. Pictures that were taken by accident that turned out incredibly well-composed. Here’s another picture, of a British New Year’s party in a small town, a personal favourite of mine.
The interesting thing is that these photos weren’t necessarily intended to be art. This is accidental. So I guess you could say that art, in the end, has nothing to do with process. That’s a troubling thought, but not necessarily true. A fairer way of putting it would be, art may have a lot to do with how it is made, but it doesn’t have to.
It is nice to know that there are little Da Vinci moments floating around out there, waiting for someone to click a button and catch them. Or you can blink away a Mona Lisa and not share it with anyone. I’m pretty glad these photos were taken, whether or not they were accidents. It’s fun to see drunk people posing so artistically. The next time I’m wasted enough to have trouble standing up, I’ll have to remember that I probably look graceful from someone’s point of view.
